This week I am combining my 'Print Inspiration' with 'A Thing Worth Celebrating'. A Thing Worth Celebrating is a wonderful movement that has originated from Alison over at The Petit Cadeau and Kim over at Joyful Roots. The idea being that we often get caught up in celebrating the big things such as birthdays, anniversaries but sometimes because of our everyday busy life, we unwillingly overlook the everyday things that deserve to be celebrated as well. Which leads to my print inspiration this week and my thing worth celebrating. The Art of Marriage is an essay that was written by Wilferd A Peterson. I first read it a few years ago and found it so inspiring, that its words just stayed with me. Peterson's essay begins with "Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens. A good marriage must be created." That rang so true to me. Often the word marriage immediately brings to mind diamonds, engagements, weddings, anniversaries, kids, separations, divorce but to me, marriage is about enjoying your partner everyday, its about how we handle the everyday together...from the exciting everyday to the mundane everyday. Peterson also says "It is not looking for perfection in each other". How true. When you find yourself sick as dog, a fever, a stomach bug, suffering postpartum, covered in baby spit up, 20 pounds heavier, working crazy hours for that promotion, looking at your first gray hair...it becomes blatantly obvious that we are not perfect but who is? We evolve as people, as couples, as families. Don't look for perfection...see an opportunity for chicken soup, appreciate the locks of hair that need to get held up, appreciate that baby wipes also work on spit up stained shirts, appreciate the moment, appreciate the everyday, appreciate that you married a partner that you can spend both the exciting days and the mundane days with. The Art of Marriage by Wilferd A Peterson has such wonderful words of wisdom, I found it to be such an inspiration, an ideal to inspire to, a formula I believe in, something that you can see in action in your everyday life......something I have wanted to turn into a print for a long time and now I have. Make sure to check out the many Things Worth Celebrating and please....share your Thing Worth Celebrating :)
